India is a land of religion where religious sentiments are guarded to an extent that the Government pass laws to protect and safguard these so called religious laws.Being a majority Hindu state, the politicians need to appease their vote bank in order to secure more votes in the next election. However sensitive the issue might be,they have been exploiting those issues to garner more votes and secure a solid footing in elections, that is if those issues appease a large number of people. But much of the important issues such as women rights and gender rights are swept aside in the background and these issues are rarely mentioned in the houses because they do not deem it as a pressing matter due to the lack of voters affected by those issues. For instance,India still have a law that is against homosexuality in the 21st century which shows that the law makers in this country are reluctant to change that law or thought of it as not a pressing matter just because there are too little homosexuals in the country or because most of them are "in the closet". In the north east, eventhough homosexuality is not frowned upon to a certain degree,Christianity and other Abrahamic religions vehemently opposed it.To an extent, people in the north east are actually open minded about homosexuality but there are few instances where someone may oppose it because it conflicts with religion.Homophobia in the last few years though is on the rise though due to the fear of the westernization of tribal cultures because of which tribal culture is slowly dying out.Lack of knowledge about homosexuality might make a person homophobic and this is very true if the person believes homosexuality is a choice, these type of beliefs makes the person who is emotionally affected into believing that he/she is an outcast, defective or unwanted which is certainly not true.
As the saying goes,"One must know two sides of an argument to know the whole truth"we must keep private things private and should not judge people based on their life choices because you just might be wrong about the things you did not actually experience first hand.
